Team Accomplishments: 3x League
“Matt has to be one of the most intense competitors that has come
out of John Jay. He WILL score in the last moments to secure the win
for himself or his team. Matt not only pushed himself, but everyone
around him. The extra effort put in his junior season would propel
him to beating a returning section champion (twice!), winning three
individual tournaments, making the blood round of the prestigious
Eastern States Classic, and making the Section Championship finals to
earn his first all section honors. He also had a career bonus rate of over
66%! Because of the Covid-19 Pandemic, Matt’s senior season was cut
and we all missed out on what would have been an incredible season
and potential All-State run. He has a bright future ahead of him and his
intensity will be missed in the practice room for years to come.”

Jake Started his varsity career as an 8th grader…. Faught thru
the whole COVID fiasco and will go down as one of the
John Jay Greats! His wins and honors speak for themselves…. but
what most people don’t know about him, from a distance, is
he is one of the nicest kids we have ever had the pleasure to
coach. You wouldn’t know it by watching his punishing
Headlocks and Merkle’s.

SPENCER HADLOCK

Captain
114 Career Wins, 61 by Pin
4x All League, x2 All Section (6th, Covid)
1x Divisional Champion, 4x Section Qualifier
Team Accomplishments: 3x League
“Spencer is a one of a kind character. The amount of knowledge he will throw out to you
in a given conversation will interest you and overwhelm you all at once. He is a man ahead
of his time….Spencer gave his life to wrestling. He broke down his approach to the sport
in the most methodical, mathematical way. His losses were never losses, they were always
lessons that he would not simply learn from for himself, but would teach others and pass
on his information. Spencer’s goofy prematch antics and ultimate tournament preparations
were not taken for granted, and will be severely missed. Spencer is going to exceed
wherever life takes him, because he will always carry around with him what it means and
what it takes to be a wrestler.”

CAM WIERL

2x Captain
122 Career Wins, 72 by Pin
3x All League, 2x All Section (INJ, 1st)
1x Division Champion 2x Sectional Qualifier
Team Accomplishments: League Champions
“Cam was an intense competitor. Many of his foe’s
did not want to be out on the mat with him. A member of
the varsity team since an 8th grader, Cam set himself on a
trajectory to be Section Champ. That is exactly what
he did. Cam strived for excellence and would go
for the pin every match. A late season ankle
injury halted what would have been a
State podium run. His pinning presence in
the line up will be missed.”

enjoy a five year career with John Jay Wrestling.
Joe was a warrior out on the mat. Hindered by

His devotion to the sport propelled him to
